Patsy L. Pope, 91, Oconto Falls, died early Thursday morning, December 2, 2021 at the home she shared with two of her children. The only child of Lawrence and Lyle (Empey) Garbrecht was born November 18, 1930 in Green Bay. In her youth, she attended Dr. Martin Luther Prep School and then the college in New Ulm, MN earning a degree in elementary education, serving in Nebraska as well as Immanuel Lutheran School in New London, WI.
On June 29, 1952 she married the Rev. Reginald E. Pope at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lena. The faithful couple served the parishes of St. Luke Lutheran in White Butte, SD; Redeemer Lutheran in Mandan, ND; founding Ocean Drive Lutheran Church in Pompano Beach, FL; St. John Lutheran in Mequon, WI; Ascension Lutheran in Mitchell, SD. Following retirement in 1995, the couple moved to Ashland, WI and operated a bed and breakfast until 2003 when they moved to Oconto Falls. While living in Oconto Falls, the couple were members of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. She will be lovingly remembered as a faithful and dedicated minister’s wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband died in 2016.
Survivors are her four children, The Rev. Stephen (Sarah) Pope, Appleton; Christine (Rudolph) Binter, Watersmeet, MI; Reginald “Fred” and Victoria “Vicky” Pope, both of Oconto Falls; four grandchildren, Lucas (Nicole) and Joseph (Stacie) Binter, Cpt. Andrew P. (MSgt. Nicole) Pope, USAF; Ian J. Pope.
Visitation with the urn present will be held after 10:00 am Wednesday, Decmeber 8, 2021 St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Matthew Stuebs officiating. Committal services will take place 11:00 am Thursday, December 9, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Mequon.
