Lyle W. Rasmussen, 81, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Wednesday morning, August 25, 2021 at Meadowbrook nursing facility following a short illness. The sixth of seven children of Walter and Emma (Lifke) Rasmussen was born April 16, 1940 in Oconto Falls. Lyle grew up in rural Oconto Falls, only to have his mother die suddenly when he was 4 years old, but was raised in a large and loving family by his older sisters.
On May 13, 1961 he married Mary Young at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gillett and they had two sons and two daughters together. The couple lived in rural Oconto Falls for all of their married lives where Lyle worked as a meat cutter at various stores over the years. He worked for SureWay and later opened a store in Argonne and Oconto Falls. Lyle loved the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping and making sausage.
Survivors are his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Rasmussen; their four children, Rick (Sherry) Rasmussen; Deborah (Gary) Sutrick; Lynn (Tom) Montie and Mark Rasmussen; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; his siblings, Dorothy Johnson; Donna (Clarence) Fabry and Darlene Merschdarf; Mary’s siblings, Bernard and Raymond Young; Marie Renel; Bernice Courchaine; Rose Ann Schubert; Rosemary Young; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Milo “Sunny” and Ronald Rasmussen, one sister Betty (Leonard) Sederstrom and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alfred Johnson, Bob Schubert, Kenny Courchaine, Fred Renel and Norbert “Nubby” Young, Gloria and Beverly Young.
Friends may call after 11:00 am Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor John Laatsch officiating. Cremation will follow.
