Gloria Murphy

Gloria Marie Murphy, 99, Oconto Falls, died Sunday morning, February 25, 2024.  She was born October 24, 1924 in Green Bay to Lawrence and Zelda (Verheyden) Lewis.  Gloria attended Green Bay East High School and graduated from Oconto High School with the class of 1942.  While helping with the family tavern, she met an outgoing and charming Irishman, Howard Murphy.

On November 6, 1944 she married Howard Murphy in Green Bay and together they had three children.  After their first son Roger was born, Gloria and Howard moved to the family farm in 1947 which is still in the family today.  Ten years later, they welcomed another son Jim and finally, their daughter Jackie.  Always a hard worker, Gloria once worked at Bauman’s Clothing Store in Oconto Falls and also after it became Robert’s Clothing for many years.  She also bartended at the former Sandlewood Golf Course in Abrams for years where she was known for making a great Old Fashioned.  Gloria was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.  As an avid card player, she enjoyed playing bridge on a weekly basis with her many friends.  Gloria also enjoyed reading, Sudoku, going for drives and always supporting her grandchildren in all their activities.

Survivors are her daughter, Jackie (Joe Schmitt) Super, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Jolene (Jeff) Truckenbrod, Sobieski; Ryan (Amanda) Super, Green Bay; Danielle (Alfred Johansson) Super, Chicago; four great grandchildren, Jena and Julie Truckenbrod, Mason and Olivia Super; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Dick Lamberg) Murphy, Lee Lake; special nieces, Carol, Geogia, Mary, Karen and Michelle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard in 2009, two sons, Roger Murphy in 2008 and Jim in 2013, one sister, Patricia (Wayne) Zimmerman, one brother, Roger, and stepfather, W.C. Van.

Visitation with the urn present will take place after 9:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
