Alice M. Mortell

May 24, 1922 - Nov 12, 2023

Alice M. Mortell, 101, Oconto Falls, died Sunday evening, November 12, 2023 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center.  She was born May 24, 1922 in Kaukauna to Urban and Anna (Heindl) Landreman.  At the age of 9 years old, she moved with her family to Green Bay where she graduated from West High School with the class of 1940.  Following graduation she worked for Northern Transportation in Green Bay.

On August 3, 1946 she married Robert “Bob” Mortell at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Green Bay.  In 1950, the couple moved to Oconto Falls where Alice worked as a librarian assistant at Washington Elementary School as well as helping her husband in the family photography studio.  She was a longtime and active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls and the Altar Rosary Society (PCCW) and served in various offices.  Alice also belonged to the Oconto Falls American Legion Auxiliary where she served as an officer and the local Chatty Hatters.   Alice will be fondly remembered in her community for her great sense of humor, bringing out the best in others and always willing to help others.

Survivors are her four children, Mike (Gayle) Mortell, Carbondale, CO; Mark Mortell, Oconto Falls; Susan Mortell, Cotati, CA; Marilyn (David) Shappell, Chicago; three grandchildren, Alyssa Mortell, Benjamin and Samuel Shappell; one sister, Mary Reince, Green Bay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob in 2013, son James in 2003, two sisters, Irene Meyer and Mildred Sinclair and brother Edward Landreman.

Visitation will be held after 3:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Jones Funeral Service, 7:00 PM PCCW prayer service.  Visitation will continue after 9:00 AM Friday, November 17, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church until the time of service.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating.  Burial will follow in parish cemetery.
