Carol J. Blazek

Carol J. Blazek, 68, Kelly Lake, died peacefully Thursday evening, October 21, 2021 with her loving family by her side in Oconto Falls following complications from a 16 year courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.  She was born March 13, 1953 in Oconto Falls to Emanuel “Chick” and Fern Umentum.  Carol grew up in Oconto Falls where she attended public schools, made life-long friends and would meet her one and only Jim Blazek, graduating from Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1971.  Following graduation, Carol attended the Wisconsin School of Cosmetology in Green Bay.

On December 30, 1972 she married Jim at St. Wecenslaus Catholic Church in Klondike and the couple had two children together, Jason and Carrie.  The couple lived at Kelly Lake for all their married lives where they enjoyed fishing, golfing, laughing and joking with family and friends and making everyone feel welcome.  Her German potato salad was often requested for family gatherings.  She also enjoyed growing beautiful flowers.  Carol was employed for many years at Laurel Kay’s Hair Salon in Oconto Falls where she had many loyal clientele.  When her grandchildren came along, Carol’s world was enriched with love and devotion that only a grandmother could give.  Carol also enjoyed working at Meadowlands Assisted living in Oconto Falls for many years where she took care of residents like they were family.  Family meant everything to Carol and always was there for her large family and many friends.

Survivors are her husband Jim Blazek, Kelly Lake; their two children, Jason Blazek, Carrie (Leon) Panske, all of Oconto Falls; two grandchildren, Odin and Alec Halvorsen; her six siblings, Connie Anderson, Rhinelander; Terry (Bev) Umentum, Oconto Falls; Faye (Duane) Janik, Lena; Robert Umentum, CA; Wendy (Gerry) Hickey, Abrams; Mark Umentum, Lena; one sister-in-law, Janet Blazek, Green Bay; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Alice, her in-laws Earl and Ila Blazek, two brothers-in-law, Duane Anderson and Donald Blazek and nephew Patrick Umentum.

Visitation will be held 3:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls.  Visitation will continue after 9:00 am Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the funeral home until the time of service.  A prayer service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home with Deacon Peter Gard officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Spruce.

It wasn’t unusual to see snowmen in Carol’s house year ’round and the next time you see a full moon, think of her.

The Blazek family would like to thank The Cottages at Meadowlands and Heartland Hospice for the care and consideration shown Carol during their time together.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Home Respite Care in Oconto Falls where Carol volunteered for many years.
