Terris “Terry” D. Umentum

Terris “Terry” Umentum, 76, Oconto Falls, died Wednesday evening, August 10, 2022 at a Green Bay hospital, surrounded by his family.  He was born April 11, 1946 to Emanuel “Chick” and Fern (Jensen) Umentum.  Terry grew up in Oconto Falls and attended public schools, graduating from Oconto Falls High School with the Class of 1964.  Following graduation, he attended UW-River Falls and worked for Jim Schaub Construction and Midland Coop.  In 1965, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War in Da Nang as part of the transportation company.

On May 7, 1966, he married Beverly Hayes at the Oconto Methodist Church.  Upon his honorable discharge from the military, the couple made their home in Oconto Falls, where Terry worked for the local lumber company. A few years later, they moved to Oshkosh where Terry was employed by Badger Concrete.  Upon returning back to Oconto Falls, Terry worked in residential construction for Hanson Construction, which later became Associated Construction.  In 1995, he joined his sons Randy and Michael as part of Umentum Construction until retiring in 2010.  Terry was a lifelong and dedicated member of the Oconto Falls American Legion Eick-Sankey Post 302, where he served as Legion Commander for over twenty years.  In 2011, Terry, along with his wife Bev and their good friend Marie Magnin, initiated the Oconto Falls Area Veterans Memorial project and held leadership roles through its completion in 2019.

As a longtime advocate of American Legion Baseball, he served as a coach and District 3 Legion Director for over 35 years, taking area teams to State and All-star games until 2021.  Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and making maple syrup with his family and many friends.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Bev Umentum; their three sons, Michael (Amy), Randy (Tami) and Scott (Kellee) Umentum; six grandchildren, Mitchell and Emily, Holly and Ryan, Hunter and Harper Umentum; one great granddaughter, Payton Umentum; five siblings, Connie Anderson, Faye (Duane) Janik, Robert Umentum, Wendy (Gerry) Hickey, and Mark Umentum; his mother-in-law, Florence Hayes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron (Kathy) Hayes, Kathy Noren, Ken (Cindy Evans) Hayes and Debi (Mike) Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Patrick in 1997, two sisters, infant Alice Umentum and Carol Blazek, his father-in-law, Harvey Hayes, and two brothers-in-law, Duane Anderson and Jim Blazek.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls.  Visitation will continue at 9:00 am Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the funeral home until the service at 11:00 am, which will be conducted by Eick-Sankey Post 302 and current American Legion Commander, Robert Maloney.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Oconto Falls.
