Oconto Falls

Ronald Joseph Curran, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026 in Oconto Falls.

Ron was born on December 18, 1936 in Green Bay to Hubert and Dorothy (Van Haren) Curran. The family moved to Oconto Falls and Ron grew up there, graduating from Oconto Falls High School in 1954. He attended UW-Oshkosh.

In 1966, Ron started GTC Auto Parts in Oconto Falls and expanded the business to become Power Sports, which he owned until 1990, located in the Industrial Park. Through the years, Ron also owned auto parts stores in Oconto and Pulaski, and the Oconto Marina. After selling these businesses, he created Cedar Ridge Development in 1992, building about 30 homes in and around Oconto Falls. Ron concluded his business career by owning Fast Stop of Oconto Falls from 1998 to 2007.

Ron was also Mayor of Oconto Falls, was a member of the City Council, led the Water and Light Commission for the city, and he was a fireman. Additionally, he was part of the Oconto County Economic Development Board, the Farmers State Bank Board, served as Chairman of the Oconto Falls Hospital Board, and was on the Finance Board for St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He ran the Christmas tree stand in town for many years.

Ron enjoyed traveling with Joan. They went to St. Thomas many times and RV'd around the country, oftentimes with their dear friends, Jeannie and Vernon Colbert. They lived full time in their RV for about 10 years. He enjoyed woodworking; the homes of many relatives contain furniture that he made. He was an avid snowmobile enthusiast, enjoyed fishing trips to Canada for 25 years, his Bichon Tara, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan Grady Curran, and his daughter, Sarah Curran King, and her husband, Steve King. He had two grandchildren, Audrey King (age 25) and Brian King (age 28) and Brian's fiancée, Lauren Barrett. He is further survived by his mother-in-law Marie (Shallow) Grady, brothers Bill (Roseanne) Curran and Pat Curran; sister-in-law Ruth Curran; brothers-in-law Chuck (Debbie Kane) Grady and Tim Lisowe; and sister-in-law Debbie Leja Grady. He is leaving behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Hubert Curran and Dorothy (Van Haren) Curran, his father-in-law Bill Grady, his brothers Doug Curran and Larry Curran and his ex-wife Nancy Gauthier Curran. He was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law Patty Curran, Marie Curran, Jean (Grady) Lisowe, and brother-in-law Timm Grady.

Per family wishes, a private memorial service will be held.
