Laverne Giese

Laverne Giese, 92, Green Bay, formerly Suring, died peacefully Thursday morning, July 8, 2021 at the Unity Meng Residence following an 8 month illness. She was born November 14, 1928 to Wesley and Bernice (Exferd) Nicholas. Laverne grew up in Abrams and attended Oconto Falls Schools, graduating high school.

On August 6, 1949 she married Elmer Giese in Abrams. Following their marriage the couple lived in Suring before moving to Milwaukee in 1957. They returned to the Suring area 10 years later where Laverne worked at Mem-Line Manufacturing for many years. Grandma Laverne, also known as Great Grandma-Bama to her great grandchildren, will be fondly remembered always being supportive, encouraging, and for her constant loving presence.

Survivors are her two children, Todd (Carla) Giese, Woodruff; Beth Schowalter, Green Bay; five grandchildren, Lori (Ted) Jacoby and Lisa (Tim) Hunt; Stacy (Keenan) Brodjeski, Dr. Dana (Jeremy Gordon) Schowalter and Stefanie (Chris) Schowalter Lunn; 11 great grandchildren, Zachary, Anthony and Caleb; Abigail, Moriah, Clara, Samuel and Benjamin; Kendrick and Annabel; Harvey; one sister, Sylvia (Lowell “Buzz”) Kamke, Oconto Falls; two sisters-in-law, Sally Giese and Agnes Ziereis; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer in 2014, two sisters, Dona (Orval Hass) (Hank) Jorgensen and Dawn (Harold) Huebscher and one brother, Leland “Penny” (Lois) Nicholas.

Private graveside services will be held in Breed Cemetery.

The Giese family would like to thank Unity Hospice, especially Karmin, Amy and Molly, for the care and concern shown Laverne during their time together.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund will be established.
