Ken Morrell

Jun 02, 1929 - Feb 23, 2021

Ken Morrell, 91, Oconto Falls, passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon February 23, 2021 at a Peshtigo area health care facility. He was born June 2, 1929 in Oconto Falls to Ernest and Lucille (Plude) Morrell. Ken grew up in Oconto where he attended the Catholic and public schools. As a young man, he served in the US Army during the Korean War.

On October 8, 1955 he married Joyce Ratz at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Following their marriage the couple lived in Oconto for a short time before moving to Oconto Falls. Ken was employed by the Scott Paper Co. for over 40 years until retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Oconto American Legion Post #74 and Shawano Area Campers Club. In 2014, Ken went on an Honor Flight with his fellow Korean War veterans. Ken was proud of his service and was rarely seen without his Korea Veteran cap. He enjoyed talking to other veterans and pretty much anyone else. He liked meeting and talking with people and had a good sense of humor. Ken enjoyed growing tomatoes and feeding the birds, especially cardinals and chickadees. The chickadees would actually sit on his shoulder while feeding. Ken collected metal bells and was always on the lookout for unusual ones to add to his collection. In later years it gave him great joy and happiness taking care of and playing with their dog, Lady.

Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Joyce Morrell; their two daughters, Julie and Tina Morrell; one brother, Ronald Morrell, one sister-in-law, Kaye Lynn Morrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jerry, his sister Carol Jean Alsteen and sister-in-law Ruth Morrell.

Visitation will be held after 9:30 am Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Parent officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
