Howard V. Elliott II

Howard V. Elliott II, 94, Oconto Falls, died early Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023 at Serenity Gardens in Gillett.  He was born December 15, 1928 in the town his great-great grandparents founded, John and Almira Volk, to Howard P. and Alma (Rifenberg) Elliott Sr.  A lifelong resident, Howard attended Oconto Falls Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1947.

On July 28, 1951 he married Barbara Scheffel at Oconto Falls United Methodist Church.  He was employed in the shipping department as manager for the Scott Paper Co. in Oconto Falls for most of his adult life, retiring in 1989.  Well known in the area for his Boy Scout leadership, he introduced countless young boys into scouting and many obtained the standard of Eagle Scout under his guidance, a status he himself received in 1946.  He was involved in Scouting for over 70 years being named Scout Master four times and Assistant Scout Master five times, while also receiving the highest scouting vigil honor, Order of the Arrow.  Howard was also instrumental in hunter’s safety education for over 30 years, the Oconto Falls Area Ambulance for 13 years and rescue squad for 8 as well as the Oconto Falls Fire Department for 26 years.  He was a lifelong member of Oconto Falls United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his nine children, Mary Elliott, Green Bay; Susan (Jerry) Winter, Abrams; Joanne (Dennis) Winnega, Two Rivers; Patricia Elliott (Jim Christensen), Little Suamico; Howard (Linda) Elliott III and Douglas (Leia) Elliott, all of Oconto Falls; William (Sue) Elliott, Saunemin, IL; Richard Elliott (Barb Mand), Green Bay; David Elliott (Randal Herrin), Greenfield; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barb on May 22, 2022, one daughter Eleanore at age 17 years old, two brothers, Doug and infant William Elliott and one sister, Ida Schroeder.

Visitation with the urn present will take place 3:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, July 28, 2023 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls.  Visitation will continue after 9:00 AM Saturday at Oconto Falls United Methodist Church until the time of service.  Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at the church with Pastor Parmar Sherwin officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls with a lunch to follow at the church.

The Elliott family would like to thank the staff at Serenity Gardens, Dr. Iris Perez-Marquardt and Unity Hospice for the love and tender care you gave Howard, especially during his last days.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Oconto Falls United Methodist Church.
