Deborah Sue Race

Deborah Sue Race, 58, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025. Born on September 24, 1967 to Thomas Sr. and Sandra (Boers) Wilson, she grew up the second of five children in Stephenson, MI. After graduating high school with the class of 1985, she earned an associate's degree from Northern Michigan University. She later met Richard Race and they were married on October 19, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Maribel, WI.

Deb was a wonderfully supportive friend, a great listener, and always had the best advice to share. She enjoyed cheering on her nieces and nephews at their various activities and had a special knack for making those around her smile. Known for her warmth-both in heart and her love for cozy blankets-Deb's presence was a comfort.

A true outdoor enthusiast, she cherished her time horseback riding alongside her husband Rick, hiking, and soaking in the peace of nature. Annual trips to the Midwest Horse Fair were some of her favorite times.

Deb is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Rick; two children, Zachary (Nicole) Race, Regina (CJ) Tuell; four grandchildren, Austin, Melika (Riley), Nevaeh, and Andrew; her mother, Sandy; sisters, Brenda (Kevin) Bickler, Cindy (Ben) Sabourin, Anita (Dave) Anderson, Tom (Char) Wilson; nieces and nephews, Joe, Emily (Taylor), Steven (Michelle), Ben, Stefanie (Preston), Ashley (Beau), Abby (Mike), Naomi, and Audrey.

Deb was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Wilson Sr.; and step-father, Lowell Paschke.

A viewing for family and friends will be held after 9:00 am on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Abrams, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Matt Stuebs officiating. Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 8 at Stephenson Township Cemetery, Michigan.
